Licel plans to use its extensive expertise in securing mobile payments to contribute to the development of PCI’s security standards.
Licel, the global mobile channel protection company, announced today that it has joined the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) as a new Associate Participating Organization. Licel will bring its experience as a pioneer in the mobile application protection space, and will work with PCI SSC with the objective of securing payment data worldwide through the ongoing development and adoption of the PCI Security Standards.
The PCI SSC is a global, cross-industry initiative that aims to increase payment security by providing flexible, industry-driven, and effective data security standards and programs. Global industry collaboration is critical to this mission. The Council’s Participating Organizations program brings together industry leaders to strategize about how to protect payment data from the latest threats and to anticipate the needs of an ever-changing payment ecosystem.
Licel has spent the last 14 years protecting mobile banking applications, mobile wallet apps, and SoftPOS solutions from these evolving threats. Its mission has resulted in a suite of trusted products that provide protection for the whole mobile channel. The latest of these, the Licel vTEE, is a virtual trusted execution environment that offers advanced security for applications that carry out sensitive transactions and operations. The Licel vTEE, evaluated and approved for both Android and iOS by EMVCo, can help organizations to comply with standards such as PCI MPoC.
“There’s a great deal of synergy between our objectives and what PCI SSC are trying to achieve”, said Ivan Kinash, the co-founder and CEO of Licel. “We’re thrilled to be a part of the PCI SSC community, and we look forward to offering our insights about the way that attacks are evolving and what we believe are the most important protection mechanisms for developers to equip their applications with. Our vision is of a world where people can embrace mobile technology without fear, and this partnership is an important step along the journey.”
As an Associate Participating Organization, Licel will add its voice to the standards development process and will collaborate with a growing community to improve payment security worldwide. Licel will also have the opportunity to recommend new initiatives for consideration to the PCI Security Standards Council and share cross-sector experiences and best practices at annual PCI Community Meetings.
“In an era of increasingly sophisticated attacks on systems, PCI Security Standards and resources help organizations secure payment data and prevent, detect and mitigate attacks that can lead to costly data breaches,” said Gina Gobeyn, Executive Director of the PCI Security Standards Council. “By joining as an Associate Participating Organization, Licel has the opportunity to play an active part in improving payment security globally by helping drive awareness and adoption of PCI Security Standards. I’m delighted that a company with Licel’s expertise in securing mobile payments has joined our community.”
